Just a few photos

Here’s a few photos that I took tonight… nothing new of the room yet – I really want to get it all finished up first… so hopefully by this weekend at the latest :) Anyway… Enjoy!

That’s her new hat that I got to match her coat for this winter… had to try it on her. I was surprised, she never even tried to take it off once! :)

Cool Quote

Here’s a cool quote I came across today… just thought I’d share…

“If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn’t need to lug around a camera.” -Lewis Hine

I love it!

Guess what I saw this morning!

Hehehe… I LOVE this time of year!  It was beautiful driving in to work this morning… nice crisp air; some sunlight, but not too super blaring bright;  and as I drove past Wall Highway Baptist Church I saw that they had their pumpkins for their pumpkin patch delivered and set up!!  I don’t know why, but whenever they have this set up it really starts to feel like fall.  It’s probably most because I just love seeing the pumpkin patches!

I almost wasn’t fast enough getting my camera out of it’s case to get a photo… but here it is – sorry it’s so blurred, but it definitely captures the feel of Fall for me.

I’m super excited because this year we are planning on taking Nora out to Tate Farms to see all the pumpkins, take some photos, and let her pick out her own pumpkin to take home with us. I’ve always been excited to have children and start some tradition like this. I can’t wait!

My Full Weekend

So, that tooth… wanna see it? I was kind of able to sneak a picture of it by letting Nora chew on her brush for a bit…

The main event this weekend was clearing out the office and getting it painted to turn into the new nursery. Saturday morning I took Nora over to my parent’s house to spend the day and then headed back to help Jeremy paint the room. When I got back to the house her had basically everything pulled out of the room. The larger pieces of furniture were pushed to the center of the room so we could just work around them. Here’s the room before the paint…

The walls in this house have always been super dry, and therefore have always needed either a primer coat – or two full coats of paint. Since primer is cheaper than an extra can of paint, that’s the route we went. Here’s the primed room – kinda reminds me of the super plain white walls from any of the military housing that we lived in growing up. This is why I must always have some sort of color on the wall!! :)

While the primer dried we took a break to watch Alabama beat Arkansas!! Yeah! ROLL TIDE!!!

And, then we painted the actual color on the walls.  I wasn’t so sure about the color at first… it looked a little off.  Jeremy and I blindly picked out this color (we didn’t have anything to match it up with when we went to the store to buy paint), so I was nervous that it wouldn’t go well with the bedding or anything else.  After it dried and I brought in the bedding and held it up, it turns out that it’s going to work just fine! :)   Here’s what the color looks like on the walls.

That was about all we got finished the first day. We let the fan sit in the window and pull out the paint fumes overnight and then in the morning we worked on some touch ups. Mom & Dad came by Sunday and picked up Nora again for the day. Jeremy and I did what we could to finish the painting. I was a little disappointed that we couldn’t get the entire room put together, but there was no way that I was comfortable putting Nora in that room to sleep until we were 100% sure that the paint smell had aired out well enough. We did go ahead and get the new crib pulled in and assembled – so that is done at least. :)

I also worked on one of those painted canvases that I mentioned earlier that I wanted to do. I drew out a cute ladybug that kinda matches the ladybugs on the bedding onto a canvas using pencil.

After sketching it out… I took out my paints and painted in all the brown spots, the head, and body of the ladybug. An afterthought is that I probably should have started with the lighter colors first, then done the darker brown. I’ll remember that for the next one.

Then I painted in the dark pink on the wings, and the lighter pink on the background. :)

I finished this up by using a super fine tip brush and painting on the antennae and outlining the wings of the ladybug. The antennae are painted to look like stitching, just like on the bedding. (Photo to come).

I plan to hopefully get the 2nd canvas drawn up and painted by the end of this next weekend. It won’t be exactly the same… possibly with 2 smaller ladybugs on it instead of just a large one. I’m also on the look out for 2 really cool frames that these can be hung in. Preferably white, or able to be painted white – in order to add a bit of contrast. Let me know if you see anything awesome!

A Surprise, and another album!

FIRST… a long awaited announcement!  Nora’s first tooth has FINALLY broken through her gums!!!  Yeah!!!  I went to pick her up yesterday and thought I saw some white on her gums when she smiled… Grandma stuck her finger in her mouth and felt it was sharp.  Ta Da!!  The much anticipated first tooth!!  I swear, that kid has been struggling with teething for so long – I want to say since she was around 3-4 months old… so it’s super nice to finally have the reward to go along with it!!

I couldn’t get a picture of it yesterday… but hopefully this weekend that tooth will make it’s way a bit further up into view and I can get a photo!  Stay tuned for the big reveal! haha

Instead, here’s a super cute picture of Nora with her Grandpa Mark that we took last night!

Of course, I’ve been feeling a bit extra crafty this week and I’ve now started a new mini-book project. Last year I had the good intentions of doing a “week in the life” album. It never happened. Soooo… on Tuesday (because I forgot my camera at home on Monday) I started taking a few pictures. I figure if I get at least 1 or 2 pictures per day and have a few notes to go along with it then that’s perfect. Sooo… here’s what I have so far…

I started creating my album by first digging out some scrap paper supplies that have been filling up the trunk of my car since last spring (yes, I know that’s crazy!).  See… at work when all the new paper sample books came in from the printing companies, we were offered up the previous year’s samples.  I was in heaven!!  All of these beautiful papers and so many possibilities of what could be done with them!!

weekalbum1

I found a good stack of pages that were already together in one of the books and tore it out of the folder. You can see all the different paper styles and each page is big enough that I can add a photo or two and some journaling – perfect!

Next, I cut some thick cardstock from one of the sample paper packs to the same size as the largest sheet of paper – this is the cover for the album. I then covered the cardstock with bright colored paper on each side. When the cover was ready, I stapled it to the stack of paper. Ta Da! A simple blank album to use for my “week in the life” mini album.

Next, I’ll add some embellishments and a title to the front cover and then begin filling up the inside pages. I’ll share more once the rest of the album is completed.
